Lead Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Lead the development, configuration, and maintenance of a Software Factory capability for the US Space Force.

• Establish guidelines and standards for deployment to Azure Cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes environments.

• Set up and manage multiple Kubernetes cluster environments in Azure cloud, including both lab and classified production settings.

• Deploy and configure Jira, Confluence, GitLab, and other DevSecOps tools on virtual machines and Kubernetes clusters.

• Direct resources and facilitate automation for virtual machine infrastructure-as-code pipelines utilizing Packer, Ansible, and shell scripts.

• Provide DevSecOps support to application teams and clients through automation, architectural guidance, and documentation.

• Act as a DevSecOps architect, engineer, and mentor for the DevSecOps team.

• Support platform development and assist development teams in refining their delivery practices.

• Monitor, patch, upgrade, and address vulnerabilities in Kubernetes nodes and platform applications.

• Maintain and improve software and infrastructure-as-code build, test, and deployment CI/CD pipelines.

• Deploy and manage FOSS and vendor Kubernetes distributions utilizing Linux-based VMs in Azure.

• Deploy and manage Jira, Confluence, and GitLab on Azure-hosted virtual machines.

• Utilize Helm to deploy, manage, and integrate Harbor, SonarQube, Keycloak, Nexus, ArgoCD, and other software into Kubernetes clusters.

• Onboard user teams onto the Software Factory platform and aid with application and infrastructure integration through automated pipelines.

• Define system and application security requirements for Azure and Kubernetes deployments.

• Educate teams about DevSecOps practices and tools.

• Suggest innovations that enhance DevSecOps capabilities and competitive edge.

⛳️ Requirements

• US Citizenship is required.

• DoD Secret Security Clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.

• BA/BS Degree (or equivalent experience).

• Over 10 years of experience in DevOps/Cloud.

• Proficiency in managing and utilizing Linux and Linux-based operating systems.

• Experience in software architecture, engineering, CI/CD, and/or DevOps methodologies.

• Familiarity with at least one programming or scripting language.

• Experience with Git version control.

• Knowledge of containerization build technologies and Kubernetes deployments.

• Experience with Kubernetes Persistent Volumes / Volume Claims and Container Storage Interface plugins in cloud environments.

• Proven track record of providing technical leadership for DevOps or cloud teams.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficient in Agile lifecycle management processes and tools.

• DoDM 8140 Certification / Security+ required.

• Preferred experience with Kubernetes, Helm, and GitOps techniques.

• Preferred experience with GitLab and GitLab CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience with US Air Force Platform One’s Big Bang is a plus.

• Familiarity with security scanning tools such as Anchore, OpenSCAP, and Prisma (Twistlock).

• Knowledge of secure development and software supply chain security practices.

• Ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment.

• Detail-oriented, critical thinker with strong problem-solving abilities.

• Willingness to travel up to 25%.
