Payroll Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Administer and facilitate routine payroll tasks, guaranteeing that employees receive accurate and timely payments.

• Calculate and verify payroll deductions, overtime, bonuses, paid leave, and various other earnings and deductions.

• Input, audit, balance, and troubleshoot payroll transactions as well as payroll-related data.

• Manage involuntary deductions, garnishments, and other payroll modifications.

• Examine employee payroll records for completeness and precision.

• Ensure adherence to federal, state, provincial (where applicable), and local payroll laws and regulations.

• Assist with payroll tax reporting and the preparation of quarterly and annual payroll tax filings.

• Investigate and resolve payroll tax inquiries, discrepancies, and reporting challenges.

• Confirm employee wage and tax setup information within HRIS and payroll systems.

• Uphold compliance with company payroll policies and procedures.

• Conduct audits of payroll records and investigate any discrepancies.

• Reconcile payroll tax and unemployment liability accounts with the general ledger.

• Generate payroll reports and perform ad hoc analyses for leadership and business partners.

• Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary payroll documentation and addressing audit requests.

• Support workers’ compensation reporting and maintain related records.

• Manage payroll systems and employee payroll information.

• Identify opportunities for enhancing payroll processes, controls, and operational efficiency.

• Collaborate with HR, Finance, and other stakeholders to address employee payroll concerns and improve payroll service delivery.

• Aid in payroll-related projects, system upgrades, testing, and process documentation efforts.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of experience in payroll administration or payroll operations.

• Proven experience in processing payroll in a multi-state environment.

• Familiarity with payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and payroll compliance practices.

• Experience in reconciling payroll data and addressing payroll discrepancies.

• Proficient in payroll systems, HRIS platforms, and Microsoft Excel.

• Preferred experience in supporting payroll audits and tax reporting activities.

• Preferred knowledge of workers' compensation reporting and compliance requirements.

• Preferred experience in a dynamic, multi-entity, or growing organization.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Equivalent work experience may substitute formal education requirements.

• Strong attention to detail.

• Knowledge of payroll compliance.
