Packaging Engineer – Regulatory & Compliance Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the enterprise implementation strategy for GE Vernova concerning the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

• Track the progression of European packaging legislation and convert regulatory requirements into actionable business practices.

• Create and manage the compliance roadmap for PPWR, which includes milestones, resource needs, and implementation timelines.

• Act as the main technical authority on packaging sustainability regulations, focusing on recyclability, recycled content, packaging minimization, labeling, and documentation requirements.

• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to identify compliance deficiencies and execute corrective measures.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to embed regulatory requirements into product and packaging design standards.

• Work alongside sourcing and suppliers to ensure that packaging materials and documentation comply with regulatory standards.

• Establish governance frameworks, metrics, dashboards, and executive reporting for PPWR and future EPR compliance.

• Align corporate packaging specifications, procedures, and design guidelines with global packaging regulations.

• Lead assessments of packaging compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies.

• Assist with internal and external packaging compliance audits in collaboration with the Supplier Quality Engineering organization.

• Create training materials and lead educational sessions for engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, and commercial teams.

• Engage with industry associations, regulatory bodies, and external consultants regarding regulatory changes and best practices.

• Offer strategic advice to senior leadership about regulatory risks, implementation priorities, and investment requirements.

• Formulate global packaging strategies that encompass material reduction, reusable transport packaging, recycled-content materials, design for end-of-life recycling, avoidance of hard-to-recycle constructions, and standardized packaging components.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Supply Chain, Packaging Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Over 10 years of experience in regulatory compliance, packaging engineering, product compliance, sustainability, or a related discipline.

• Proven experience in interpreting and implementing complex international regulations.

• Strong project and program management skills with experience leading cross-functional initiatives.

• Exceptional communication and executive presentation abilities.

• Experience in influencing stakeholders across various business functions without direct authority.

• Capability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic global environment.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States.

• Successful completion of a drug screening, where applicable.

• Familiarity with European environmental regulations, including PPWR, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), or packaging directives.

• Knowledge of packaging design, packaging materials, recyclability standards, and sustainable packaging methods.

• Background in manufacturing, energy, industrial equipment, or other highly regulated sectors.

• Understanding of lifecycle assessment (LCA), circular economy principles, and sustainability reporting.

• PMP certification or equivalent program management experience.
