Outpatient Coding Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Review medical records and accurately assign codes for diagnoses and procedures.

• Assign and sequence codes precisely based on the documentation found in medical records.

• Determine the appropriate discharge disposition.

• Abstract and input coded data to fulfill hospital statistical and reporting requirements.

• Identify and communicate opportunities for documentation improvement and coding issues for follow-up and resolution.

• Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% and achieve 95% APC assignment accuracy while adhering to site-designated productivity standards.

• Track continuing education credits to uphold professional credentials.

• Participate in Datavant Health-sponsored educational meetings and in-services.

• Exhibit initiative and sound judgment in carrying out job responsibilities.

• Collaborate with co-workers, management, and hospital staff concerning clinical and reimbursement matters.

• Operate in a professional, efficient, and positive manner.

• Comply with the American Health Information Management Association's code of ethics.

• Deliver customer-focused, professional, flexible, and dependable service while demonstrating a willingness to learn.

• Manage high-complexity work functions and make informed decisions.

• Adhere to all HIM Division Policies.

⛳️ Requirements

• AHIMA certified credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC certified credentials (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC).

• Minimum of 2 years of coding experience in a hospital setting and/or a coding consulting role.

• Proficient in most or all coding specialties: Same Day Surgery, Observation, Injections/Infusions.

• Proficient in most or all coding specialties: Ancillary, Emergency Department, Injections/Infusions, E/M leveling.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, adeptness in remote work, and exceptional time management abilities.

• Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.

• Must take and successfully pass the annual Introductory HIPAA examination and other assigned annual tests.
