Outpatient Coding Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Evaluate medical records and accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes.

• Code assignments and sequencing should be based on the documentation within the medical records.

• Determine the correct discharge disposition.

• Extract and input coded data to fulfill hospital statistical and reporting obligations.

• Identify and communicate opportunities for documentation improvement and address coding issues for resolution.

• Achieve a coding accuracy rate of 95% and maintain 95% accuracy in APC assignments while adhering to productivity standards.

• Monitor continuing education credits to uphold professional certifications.

• Participate in education meetings and in-services sponsored by Datavant Health.

• Engage in communication with colleagues, management, and hospital personnel regarding clinical and reimbursement matters.

• Manage complex tasks and make informed decisions.

• Adhere to HIM Division policies.

• Conduct work in a professional, efficient, and positive manner, with a strong focus on customer service.

⛳️ Requirements

• Possession of AHIMA certified credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC certified credentials (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC).

• A minimum of 3 years of coding experience in a hospital setting and/or in a coding consulting capacity.

• Proficiency in major coding specialties such as Same Day Surgery, Observation, and Injections/Infusions.

• Proficiency in additional coding specialties including Ancillary, Emergency Department, Injections/Infusions, and E/M leveling.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Capability to work effectively in a remote environment.

• Outstanding time management skills.

• Familiarity with computerized encoding and abstracting software.

• Required to complete and pass the annual Introductory HIPAA examination and other designated annual assessments.

• Commitment to maintaining professional credentials through ongoing education credits.

• Adherence to AHIMA’s code of ethics and all HIM Division policies.
