Outpatient Coding Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Evaluate medical records and accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes.

• Code and sequence based on the documentation present in medical records.

• Determine the appropriate discharge disposition.

• Abstract and enter coded information to fulfill hospital statistical and reporting obligations.

• Share opportunities for documentation improvement and address coding issues for resolution.

• Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% and an APC assignment accuracy rate of 95%.

• Achieve site-specific productivity standards.

• Monitor continuing education credits to uphold professional credentials.

• Participate in education meetings and in-services sponsored by Datavant Health.

• Collaborate with colleagues, management, and hospital personnel on clinical and reimbursement matters.

• Manage high-complexity tasks and decision-making processes.

• Adhere to AHIMA’s code of ethics and HIM Division Policies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Possess AHIMA-certified credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC-certified credentials (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC).

• Have 2+ years of coding experience in a hospital or coding consulting environment.

• Demonstrate proficiency in most or all of the following coding specialties: Same Day Surgery, Observation, Injections/Infusions.

• Exhibit proficiency in most or all of the following coding areas: Ancillary, Emergency Department, Injections/Infusions, E/M leveling.

• Strong written and verbal communication capabilities are essential.

• Ability to work effectively in a remote setting.

• Excellent time management skills are required.

• Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software is necessary.

• Must complete and pass the annual Introductory HIPAA examination along with other assigned annual tests.
