Nurse Disability Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nebraska.

📋 Description

• Analyze, review, and interpret medical information pertaining to disability claims.

• Serve as a clinical resource for benefit specialists and claim professionals within Group Protection.

• Assess diagnoses, the severity of medical conditions, restrictions, limitations, impairment levels, and duration of recovery.

• Offer coaching and guidance to claims related to medical management.

• Stay informed on current and emerging developments, collaborating with management to integrate trends into solutions.

• Identify relevant clinical facts and address inquiries from benefits specialists and physician consultants.

• Provide support to claim professionals during claim meetings.

• Suggest required medical information to evaluate impairment and facilitate claim management.

• Refer cases to external clinical resources such as Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs), Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs), and peer reviews.

• Engage in discussions regarding complex medical issues with healthcare providers and document the outcomes.

• Collaborate with Vocational Rehabilitation Coordinators to enhance return-to-work services.

• Manage an assigned caseload while adhering to departmental productivity goals.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience may substitute for a Bachelor's) in Nursing.

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state where the position is based upon hiring.

• Capability to read, analyze, and interpret both internal and external documents, including professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, policies, proposals, and standard operating procedures.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Clear and concise communication skills for interpreting medical information, documenting clinical rationales, clarifying restrictions and limitations, aiding in return-to-work discussions, and communicating with staff, management, and stakeholders.

• An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred.

• Preferred experience of 3-5 years in nursing, particularly with clinical expertise in Emergency Room, Critical Care, Orthopedics, Coronary Care, or trauma.

• Previous experience in the insurance industry is preferred.

• Familiarity and/or proficiency with Disability Management (STD/LTD), Workers Compensation, Utilization Review, and/or nurse case management is preferred.
