Nights Editor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee EW’s after-hours news operations

• Supervise writers and act as the main editorial decision-maker during the designated shift

• Curate the news list while assigning and editing stories

• Manage breaking news and concentrate coverage on the most significant entertainment stories

• Prioritize tasks based on editorial significance and audience engagement

• Adjust coverage as news evolves and lead edits accordingly

• Ensure the edit queue is completed before the shift concludes

• Assist writers in enhancing their news judgment and in identifying, advancing, prioritizing, and finalizing major stories

• Make autonomous editorial decisions during off-hours in the absence of senior leadership

• Oversee and provide constructive feedback to writers

• Report and write stories related to entertainment access and news

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience, including at least 2 years in an editorial capacity

• Exceptional writing, editing, and communication abilities

• Strong understanding of entertainment, pop culture, and the EW brand

• Capacity to develop innovative and original story ideas

• Proficient time management and multitasking abilities

• Ability to excel in a fast-paced work environment

• Familiarity with SEO, social media, content management systems, analytics tools, and Photoshop

• Availability from Monday to Thursday 2pm-10pm PT and Sunday 12pm-8pm PT

• Must fulfill employment authorization requirements validated through E-Verify
