Network Technologies Director

Posted Oct 16

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.

📋 Description

• Act as the ultimate technical decision-maker under the VP for WAN, LAN, data center, cloud interconnect, and network security edge architecture.

• Take ownership of the multi-year network architecture roadmap and technology selection process.

• Lead network design reviews and authorize significant changes involving BGP policy, EVPN/VXLAN fabrics, SD-WAN/SASE, Equinix Fabric, AWS Direct Connect, optical/WAVE circuits, and route diversity.

• Manage technical standards, reference architectures, golden configurations, and high-level/low-level design documentation.

• Ensure that network designs are feasible and can be effectively implemented by the engineering team.

• Collaborate with the Director of Cybersecurity & Network Systems, who is responsible for engineering staff and operations.

• Oversee the Kentik network observability architecture, covering flow analytics, synthetic testing, BGP monitoring, and capacity planning methodologies.

• Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex incidents; facilitate post-incident architectural reviews and systemic corrections.

• Represent network architecture to executives, enterprise customers, auditors, and third-party assessors.

• Ensure that designs comply with NIST 800-171, SOC 2, and ITAR/EAR requirements; collaborate with compliance and legal teams on handling export-controlled data.

• Lead technical network initiatives for integration readiness, due diligence responses, and assessments by third parties.

• Assess emerging technologies, conduct proofs of concept, and shape vendor technical strategies and roadmaps.

• Provide technical insights for budget and contract-related decisions.

• Mentor senior engineers in advanced routing, fabric design, and design discipline.

• Lead by leveraging technical expertise rather than through direct management of personnel.

⛳️ Requirements

• Current CCIE certification is mandatory (Enterprise Infrastructure or Service Provider track is preferred).

• A second expert-level certification (additional CCIE track, CCDE, JNCIE, or AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty) is highly desired.

• Over 15 years of progressive experience in network engineering.

• At least 7 years in a principal, distinguished, or chief-architect level design position with proven design authority at scale.

• Expert-level proficiency in BGP: policy design, route reflection, communities, traffic engineering, and multi-homing at scale.

• Extensive experience with EVPN/VXLAN data center fabrics and contemporary spine/leaf design.

• Practical experience with SD-WAN/SASE platforms; Cato Networks is strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with cloud interconnect solutions, particularly Equinix Fabric and AWS Direct Connect.

• Experience with carrier services, including optical/WAVE circuits, circuit diversity analysis, and technical escalation with carriers.

• Knowledge of designing within NIST 800-171, SOC 2, and ITAR/EAR compliance frameworks.

• Proven ability to influence across teams without direct authority.

• Proficiency in network observability tools, including Kentik or similar, NetFlow/sFlow analytics, synthetic testing, BGP monitoring, and SLA-driven capacity planning.

• Excellent communication skills suitable for executive interactions.

• U.S. citizenship is required, as defined by ITAR/EAR, due to access to export-controlled technical data.

• Multiple active expert-level certifications are preferred.

• Background in satellite ground segments, carriers, ISPs, or other telecommunications infrastructure is advantageous.

• Depth of knowledge in security architecture, including firewall design, micro-segmentation, and zero-trust design is preferred.

• Experience in leading technical workstreams through M&A due diligence and integration is desirable.

• Familiarity with network automation using Python and Ansible is a plus.

• Understanding of infrastructure-as-code design practices is preferred.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

• Familiarity with NetSuite is a plus.

• Willingness to travel to company headquarters, gateway sites, data centers, and vendor/customer locations as required for business.

• Availability for occasional after-hours support for major incidents and maintenance windows is necessary.
