Network Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the complete architecture for the global data center fabric, encompassing spine-leaf, Clos-based designs, EVPN/VXLAN overlays, and high-density, low-latency topologies.

• Design and enhance the enterprise WAN, which includes MPLS, SD-WAN, dark fiber, and DWDM transport.

• Create high-bandwidth, non-blocking network fabrics tailored for HPC, GPU clusters, and distributed storage workloads.

• Establish routing and control-plane architecture utilizing BGP, OSPF, and EVPN protocols.

• Spearhead capacity planning and lifecycle strategies for both data center and WAN infrastructure.

• Act as the primary escalation point for complex incidents that impact services, leading root-cause analysis and resolution efforts.

• Oversee delivery metrics such as network availability, MTTR, and RTO/RPO targets for clinical failover scenarios.

• Manage incident communication and downtime procedures in collaboration with hospital IT, clinical/nursing informatics, and biomedical engineering teams.

• Collaborate with network security architecture teams on segmentation, firewall policies, and access-control designs.

• Innovate automation and infrastructure-as-code practices utilizing Python, Ansible, or similar tools.

• Strategize and implement network changes during clinical change-freeze windows and blackout periods.

• Investigate, assess, and recommend data center, WAN, and HPC networking technologies and vendors.

• Lead implementation planning and conduct peer design reviews for infrastructure initiatives.

• Generate and maintain architecture documentation, LLD/HLD artifacts, network diagrams, and standard operating procedures.

• Mentor and offer technical guidance to network engineers and architects.

• Contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity planning efforts.

• Design network architectures that support EHR/EMR, PACS/medical imaging, HL7/FHIR engines, connected medical devices, nurse call systems, paging, and emergency communication systems.

• Ensure that designs comply with HIPAA, HITRUST, and other healthcare regulatory requirements.

• Maintain audit-ready documentation of network segmentation and PHI data-flow controls.

• Architect tenant-to-tenant traffic isolation across shared infrastructure.

• Support high-availability architecture for mission-critical healthcare environments.

• Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to support clinical operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or an equivalent qualification is mandatory.

• A Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in a related discipline.

• CCNP or a higher certification is mandatory (in Enterprise, Data Center, or Service Provider track).

• A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in network engineering/architecture is required.

• Hands-on expertise in architecting data center fabric and WAN transport is essential.

• Proven experience in building high-bandwidth, low-latency network fabrics for HPC or other data-intensive compute tasks.

• Demonstrated experience in developing network infrastructure for health systems, payers, or healthcare SaaS platforms is required.

• Direct experience in HIPAA/HITRUST-regulated environments, clinical system connectivity, and supporting compliance audits for customers.

• Expert-level knowledge of data center fabric architecture, spine-leaf design, VXLAN/EVPN overlays, and multi-site fabric interconnect.

• Expert-level understanding of WAN architecture, including MPLS, SD-WAN, and optical/DWDM transport design.

• Advanced knowledge of BGP and OSPF design, troubleshooting, and traffic engineering.

• Strong understanding of network security architecture.

• Familiarity with Cisco, Aruba, and Palo Alto Networks platforms.

• Familiarity with healthcare IT infrastructure, HIPAA, HITRUST, EHR/EMR, PACS, and connectivity of clinical/biomedical devices.

• Understanding of the implications of Business Associate Agreements (BAA).

• Capacity to participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation.

• Willingness to work a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

• CCIE certification is strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with HL7/FHIR interface engines and integration of medical device networks.

• Experience with cloud on-ramps and hybrid connectivity solutions, such as AWS Direct Connect or Azure ExpressRoute.

• Exposure to network detection and response or traffic analysis tools.

• Must be able to travel occasionally, both domestically and internationally, with travel being less than 25%.
