This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Act as a senior, hands-on developer accountable for the design, development, maintenance, and ongoing enhancement of a large-scale production application.
• Assume responsibility for the application codebase and collaborate closely with the Technical Lead to set technical direction, engineering standards, and development best practices.
• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain microservices and RESTful APIs utilizing C# and .NET 10/.NET Core.
• Create and support cloud-native applications deployed within AWS GovCloud.
• Design and sustain scalable, resilient, and highly available services that process millions of messages monthly.
• Develop and support event-driven and asynchronous processing solutions leveraging RabbitMQ and AWS SQS.
• Design, develop, and optimize data access and persistence solutions using PostgreSQL on AWS RDS.
• Develop, deploy, troubleshoot, and maintain containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes managed via Rancher.
• Facilitate the integration and operation of machine learning capabilities within the microservices architecture.
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools, code-generation technologies, AI agents, and AI development frameworks to enhance productivity and speed up delivery.
• Review AI-generated code for architecture, security, maintainability, performance, and adherence to coding standards.
• Conduct code reviews, mentor developers, troubleshoot intricate technical issues, and establish engineering best practices.
• Ensure code quality and security through automated scanning and static code analysis, including the use of SonarQube.
• Manage source code and engage in development and CI/CD workflows using Azure DevOps.
• Diagnose and resolve performance, scalability, reliability, messaging, database, and integration challenges.
• Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to monitor and ensure the health and availability of production applications.
• Assist with production releases, deployments, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.
• Participate in occasional after-hours support for scheduled releases and critical incidents.
• Identify enhancements to architecture, performance, resiliency, observability, automation, and developer productivity.
• Engage in Agile development activities, including technical planning, estimation, design reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
• Over 8 years of professional software development experience, including extensive work in developing and supporting enterprise-scale production applications.
• Expert-level hands-on development experience with C#, .NET Core, and modern .NET (versions 8/9/10 or similar).
• Strong expertise in designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices-based architectures.
• Experience in developing and operating applications within AWS, preferably AWS GovCloud.
• Significant experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production settings.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes management platforms such as Rancher.
• Experience in developing asynchronous, event-driven, or message-based applications using RabbitMQ and AWS SQS or equivalent technologies.
• Strong relational database development skills with PostgreSQL, including database design, query optimization, and performance troubleshooting.
• Experience with AWS RDS or similar managed relational database services.
• Profound understanding of distributed systems, high-availability architectures, scalability, resiliency, and production application performance.
• Experience in supporting high-volume production systems and diagnosing complex issues across application, database, messaging, container, and infrastructure layers.
• Proven ability to take technical ownership of a substantial codebase and independently lead complex engineering initiatives.
• Experience conducting code reviews and providing technical guidance and mentorship to other developers.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development and code-generation tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or comparable AI development technologies.
• Ability to effectively utilize AI tools while applying sound engineering judgment to validate, secure, test, and maintain AI-generated code.
• Experience with SonarQube or similar static code analysis and code-quality platforms.
• Proficiency in Azure DevOps repositories, source control, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevSecOps practices.
• Strong understanding of secure software development practices suitable for enterprise and Federal environments.
• Willingness to provide occasional after-hours support for production releases and critical incidents.
