National Text and Chat Counselor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Respond to incoming text and chat messages promptly via the 988 Lifeline platform.

• Utilize active listening, empathy, and evidence-based crisis intervention techniques to engage users.

• Conduct assessments for suicide risk and escalate high-risk cases to supervisors or emergency services as necessary.

• Maintain professional boundaries while practicing cultural humility and trauma-informed care.

• Offer referrals to local mental health services, shelters, substance use treatment programs, and other resources.

• Accurately and promptly document interactions in electronic records in compliance with agency and legal standards.

• Participate in regular supervision, debriefings, and training sessions.

• Uphold confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and 988 Lifeline standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

• An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field is preferred.

• Excellent typing skills are necessary.

• Strong written communication skills are essential.

• Skills in crisis de-escalation are required.

• Comfort in working with diverse populations, including LGBTQIA+, youth, and individuals facing mental health or substance-related crises.

• Bilingual or multilingual abilities are preferred.

• Must have reliable internet connectivity and a private, quiet workspace.

• Compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality requirements is mandatory.

• Availability for variable shifts: 7:00 AM-3:00 PM or 3:00 PM-11:00 PM, Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday.
