National Text and Chat Counselor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Respond swiftly to text and chat inquiries via the 988 Lifeline platform.

• Engage users through active listening, empathy, and evidence-based crisis intervention strategies.

• Perform suicide risk assessments and escalate high-risk cases to supervisors or emergency services as necessary.

• Maintain professional boundaries while practicing cultural humility and trauma-informed care.

• Offer referrals to local mental health services, shelters, substance use treatment, and additional resources.

• Accurately document interactions in electronic records in a timely manner.

• Participate in supervision, debriefings, and training sessions regularly.

• Ensure confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and 988 Lifeline standards.

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent qualification.

• Excellent typing proficiency.

• Strong written communication abilities.

• Skills in crisis de-escalation.

• Comfort in engaging with diverse populations, including LGBTQIA+, youth, and individuals experiencing mental health or substance-related crises.

• Reliable internet access and a private, quiet work environment are essential.

• Must comply with HIPAA and confidentiality guidelines.

• An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field is preferred.

• Bilingual or multilingual abilities are preferred.
