Mental Health Response Clinician – Crisis Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Zealand.

📋 Description

• Provide exceptional mental health telephone triage utilizing the UK triage tool, de-escalation techniques, and support planning.

• Establish rapport with service users and their families while developing effective support plans and referrals.

• Collaborate with Police, Ambulance, crisis teams, and frontline partners to ensure smooth handovers, communication, and outcomes by employing the ISBAR model.

• Keep precise professional documentation in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.

• Ensure that consult documents are delivered to the appropriate clinical team without delay.

• Utilize clinical guidelines, decision-support tools, and technology to facilitate safe clinical practice.

• Serve as the shift coordinator as needed.

• Offer initial professional support to individuals experiencing mental distress and assist callers in finding safe next steps.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in an acute mental health environment, including Crisis Team, liaison Psychiatry, Community Mental Health, In-patient Mental Health, or Triage team.

• Registered with the NZ Professional Registration Board and possess a current Annual Practising Certificate.

• Proven experience in providing telephone triage and interventions in mental health contexts.

• Familiarity with suicide and risk management, including effective assessment and management strategies.

• Ideally, experience as a Designated Authorised Officer (DAO).

• Proficient and confident in utilizing various IT systems.

• Capable of maintaining accurate documentation and managing workload responsibly.

• Strong clinical judgment in mental health triage, suicide risk assessment, intervention planning, and telephone-based support.

• Excellent communication abilities.

• High cultural competence with practical application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally safe practices.
