Medical Interpreter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Deliver foreign language interpreting services for individuals with limited English proficiency and staff members.

• Facilitate effective cross-cultural communication for non-English-speaking patients across all age groups.

• Ensure precise interpretation between LEP patients and hospital staff.

• Educate both individuals and staff regarding culturally specific values, beliefs, and practices pertinent to encounters.

• Convey medical terminology and support-service details to LEP patients.

• Clarify the interpreter's role, responsibilities, and limitations.

• Act as a cultural mediator among patients, families, and clinicians concerning medical care.

• Inform about hospital resources, office protocols, and limitations; make suitable referrals.

• Build relationships with LEP community focus groups centered on community needs.

• Provide verbatim interpretation to maintain the integrity of the medical record and accurately convey message meaning, intent, tone, style, and language level.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.

• Minimum of 1 year experience in human or health services.

• Capability to adhere to interpreter standards of practice and the code of ethics.

• Ability to consistently perform the same type of work for prolonged periods.

• Proficiency in interpreting and translating on a daily basis, even in potentially stressful situations.

• Exceptional listening skills.

• Familiarity with medical terminology and/or specialized vocabulary.

• Comprehension of the subject matter to effectively translate from the source language to the target language.

• Completion of BTG - Bridging the Gap - in the State of Pennsylvania upon hire.

• Foreign language training is preferred.

• Capability to lift and carry 25 lbs.; frequent sitting and standing; regular keyboard usage; patient care providers may need to kneel, bend, squat, and perform CPR.
