Mandarin Speaking Interpreter

📋 Description

• Deliver precise, thorough, and respectful video interpreting services between English and Mandarin, including occasional over-the-phone sessions.

• Facilitate communication accurately, ensuring no addition, omission, or alteration of the speakers' intended meanings.

• Connect English-speaking healthcare providers with Mandarin-speaking patients within the US healthcare framework.

• Adhere to professional interpreter ethics, standards of practice, and company protocols.

• Uphold confidentiality and comply with relevant healthcare privacy regulations.

• Exhibit cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds, communication styles, and patient preferences.

• Maintain a professional demeanor and exercise sound judgment regarding interpreter role boundaries.

• Adjust to advancements in technology, workflows, and service demands.

• Engage in required training, coaching, and quality assurance activities.

• Complete structured evaluations and foundational training before commencing live sessions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Fluent and professional verbal communication skills in both English and Mandarin.

• A genuine understanding of medical interpreting, which may include informal experiences like interpreting for family members.

• Ability to accurately and completely interpret medical information in both languages.

• Willingness to undergo a medical interpreting proficiency assessment as part of the hiring process.

• Cultural awareness and comfort operating within the US healthcare environment.

• Strong reliability and sound judgment, coupled with a customer service-oriented mindset.

• Comfortable using video conferencing platforms and adapting to new remote technologies.

• Capable of passing background checks and drug screenings.

• Dedicated home workspace: a private, distraction-free room with a locking door and wired high-speed internet; no Wi-Fi, hotspot, satellite, or DSL connections allowed.

• Comfortable being on camera for the majority of each shift.

• Located in the Philippines or Malaysia, with the ability to work remotely.

• Willingness and ability to work night shifts aligned with US Eastern Time (ET).

• Previous professional interpreting experience is not mandatory.

• Formal medical interpreter training or a related certificate or degree is beneficial but not required.

• National medical interpreter certification, such as CCHI or NBCMI, is a plus but not essential.

• Experience interpreting over video or telephone platforms is advantageous.

• Familiarity with medical terminology in both English and Mandarin is a plus.

• Background in healthcare, clinical support, customer service, call center/BPO, language services, translation, or interpreting is preferred.
