Managing Senior Counsel, Privacy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Direct the privacy legal and compliance team that supports the CVS Caremark business.

• Offer timely and strategic legal advice to internal business partners regarding federal and state healthcare privacy regulations and laws.

• Counsel business partners on matters of privacy compliance.

• Collaborate with attorneys and partners on privacy compliance issues.

• Identify business and legal risks, and create solutions that balance legal challenges with business objectives.

• Develop an understanding of the operational goals and business needs of assigned internal clients.

• Cultivate and sustain positive relationships with clients across all levels of the organization.

• Supervise other members of the privacy team.

• Provide guidance on privacy matters concerning member information in pharmacy benefit management operations, including HIPAA counsel and incident management.

• Assist with privacy contracting, regulatory compliance, and data utilization.

• Offer practical legal recommendations that align with business objectives and drive project initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of legal experience with a law firm, health plan, or healthcare system focused on HIPAA, privacy requirements, data protection, or related regulatory matters.

• Extensive subject matter expertise in privacy laws, including HIPAA and other federal and state privacy regulations.

• Experience with privacy incidents and cybersecurity issues.

• Background in data governance and HIPAA data regulations, including research and de-identification processes.

• Bachelor’s degree and J.D. with good standing admission to practice law in at least one U.S. state.

• Proven ability to work collaboratively as an effective team player.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with initiative and motivation.

• Familiarity with general healthcare laws and regulations pertaining to pharmacy benefit management.

• Experience in drafting and negotiating complex agreements, particularly those involving privacy and data protection clauses.

• Certified Information Privacy Professional/US (CIPP/US) or equivalent privacy certifications.

• Management experience overseeing legal and privacy professionals.
