This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Develop and sustain the enterprise semantic layer, serving as the primary source for governed metrics utilized by dashboards, operational systems, data science, and AI agents.
• Create version-controlled, tested, and reusable metric definitions using SQL, transformations, and joins across AWS Redshift, S3, and other platforms.
• Implement performance, reliability, and cost efficiency for metric query execution.
• Oversee automated test coverage, SLA monitoring, lineage tracking, anomaly detection, and incident response for certified metrics.
• Evaluate suggested modifications to certified metric definitions and assist in the technical change approval process.
• Manage the metric certification lifecycle and oversee promotion gates from exploration to enterprise certification.
• Collaborate with product managers to implement, oversee, and uphold metric definitions and quality standards.
• Identify and merge inconsistent, duplicate, and conflicting metric logic into governed definitions.
• Document workflows, processes, approval pathways, lifecycle status, quality results, and unresolved issues.
• Provide governed metrics and business context to Tableau, operational systems, data science, and AI agents.
• Maintain governed business context in the data catalog while monitoring metric quality, freshness, usage, and anomalies.
• Investigate semantic-layer, metadata, and AI-enablement tools and offer recommendations.
• Directly manage and develop one direct report.
• Execute designated phases of the semantic-layer and governance roadmap under the guidance of the Senior Director.
• Relay updates on progress, metric quality, and delivery to stakeholders and the Senior Director.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in computer science, analytics engineering, data engineering, or a related discipline.
• Over 5 years of progressive experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or BI platform roles.
• Proficiency in constructing governed metrics, reusable data models, and enterprise-scale reporting infrastructure.
• Strong, demonstrable SQL skills along with experience in Redshift or other columnar databases.
• Capability to write, optimize, and review complex analytical queries in a production setting.
• Practical experience with semantic layer or metrics-store tools such as dbt Semantic Layer/MetricFlow, Cube, AtScale, LookML, or similar.
• Familiarity with version control (git), CI/CD, and automated testing methodologies.
• Working knowledge of dimensional modeling, joins, aggregation logic, performance optimization, and semantic layer design principles.
• Experience in executing production data quality frameworks, including automated tests, SLAs, monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
• Proficient in Tableau or similar BI platforms.
• Responsibility for the accuracy, consistency, and governance of enterprise metric definitions.
• Ability to coordinate metric definitions and methodologies across product, analytics, and business teams.
• Capacity to manage multiple concurrent tasks and priorities while ensuring data quality and adherence to delivery timelines.
• An advanced degree in a quantitative or technical field is preferred.
• Experience with data catalog, lineage, and data quality tools is preferred.
• Experience in people leadership or demonstrated readiness to manage and develop a direct report is preferred.
• Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, or other Atlassian products is preferred.
