Manager, GitHub DevOps Engineer/Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Define and oversee the Azure DevOps strategy in alignment with both enterprise and client objectives.

• Spearhead transformation strategies for GitHub and engineering practices.

• Provide counsel to business and technology leaders regarding the adoption of AI powered by GitHub, AI-enabled SDLC practices, DevSecOps, and modernization of software engineering.

• Facilitate discovery sessions, assessments, workshops, and roadmap engagements with client stakeholders.

• Advocate for modern software engineering, DevOps, DevSecOps, and platform engineering methodologies.

• Design and execute GitHub Enterprise architectures, governance models, repository strategies, and operating frameworks.

• Architect and enhance GitHub Actions workflows, CI/CD platforms, and software delivery pipelines.

• Lead migrations from Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Bitbucket, GitLab, and other legacy toolchains to GitHub.

• Address challenges related to software delivery, deployment, source control, security, and infrastructure.

• Drive the adoption of AI-enabled software development practices utilizing GitHub Copilot and emerging AI engineering capabilities.

• Advise on the GitHub Copilot strategy, responsible AI governance, security, licensing, usage measurement, and cost management.

• Develop frameworks for adoption and value realization that link Copilot usage, license utilization, AI consumption, delivery outcomes, quality, and developer experience to client goals.

• Guide AI cost management through model selection, prompting and context patterns, usage guardrails, license optimization, and consumption reviews.

• Design and implement AI-assisted workflows for coding, testing, code review, documentation, troubleshooting, and enhancing developer productivity.

• Create reusable AI-enabled engineering accelerators, playbooks, and reference architectures.

• Collaborate with business, engineering, and technology leaders to scale AI-driven transformation throughout the SDLC.

• Mentor leaders, engineers, architects, and developer champions on best practices for GitHub Copilot.

• Continuously enhance reliability, security, governance, compliance, and operational effectiveness across software delivery platforms.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of IT experience with a strong practical background in cloud, GitHub, and DevOps.

• A minimum of 2 years in a lead, architect, or senior technical position.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and deploying large-scale cloud solutions.

• Strong hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, and/or Jenkins for comprehensive CI/CD pipelines.

• Proficient in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Bash, and/or Python.

• Solid grasp of CI/CD, Git branching strategies, and release management processes.

• Experience in advising on best practices for DevOps and aligning technical solutions with business objectives.

• Proven record of guiding enterprise clients through GitHub Copilot adoption, enablement, governance, cost optimization, metrics, and value realization.

• Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, including security scans, secrets management, and quality gates.

• Experience with hybrid or multi-cloud environments and networking, such as VPNs or ExpressRoute.

• Knowledge of reliability engineering principles, infrastructure performance tuning, and cost optimization strategies.

• Understanding of ITIL or ITSM processes that support CI/CD toolchains.

• Familiarity with compliance frameworks including NIST, HIPAA, PCI, or ISO 27001.

• A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Experience in consulting or client-facing roles is highly desirable.

• Experience in large-scale enterprise or regulated environments, such as finance or healthcare, is advantageous.

• Pre-sales solution architecture experience is a plus.

• Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400) is preferred.

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) is preferred.

• Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204) certifications are beneficial.

• Container certifications, such as Kubernetes or Docker, are advantageous.

• ITIL or Agile certifications are a plus.

• Security certifications, including Azure Security Engineer or other cloud security credentials, are advantageous.
