This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Collaborate with Legal Counsel associates.
• Collect and evaluate facts while applying relevant laws, regulations, and legal standards.
• Aid in providing legal counsel concerning insurance contracts, marketing agreements, sales and marketing materials, policy interpretation, claims processes, and individual claims.
• Assist with underwriting processes for individual, worksite, and group life and health insurance policies.
• Resolve policyholder concerns.
• Support inquiries and complaints from attorneys, consumers, and regulatory bodies.
• Contribute to risk assessment and mitigation efforts in fraud investigations and determinations.
• Help with employment-related matters.
• Collaborate with Compliance, Employment, Litigation, Privacy, Legal Operations, and Government Relations teams within the Law Department.
• Engage in internship program activities such as networking, leader talks, career counseling, development opportunities, product and industry presentations, final presentations, and volunteering.
• Participate in an in-person event at one of the corporate offices during a week of the internship program.
• Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
• The company does not plan to sponsor work visas for this position or any future full-time opportunities.
• Progress towards a JD degree with the completion of the first year of law school.
• Availability to work 40 hours per week for 10–12 weeks during the summer.
• Preference for candidates located in the Central or Eastern US time zone, or willingness to work Central or Eastern time zone business hours.
• Prior internship experience is preferred.
• Experience balancing education with a part-time job during the academic year is preferred.
• Involvement in university clubs is preferred.
