Legal Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Deliver practical, commercially oriented legal counsel across the businesses in Australia and New Zealand.

• Oversee a diverse array of legal matters from start to finish with a significant level of independence.

• Draft, assess, and negotiate B2B customer contracts, content licenses, supplier agreements, and technology deals.

• Engage directly in negotiations with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.

• Weigh legal risks against business goals.

• Cultivate relationships with senior business leaders throughout Australia and New Zealand.

• Assist in business initiatives, new product launches, and technology projects, including AI-driven solutions.

• Leverage generative AI and legal technology to enhance the delivery of legal services.

• Create templates, playbooks, and practical guidance materials.

• Provide legal training and participate in legal clinics.

• Assist with disputes and pre-litigation matters, managing external counsel as necessary.

• Collaborate with legal teams across the Pacific region and globally.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE).

• Admission to practice law in Australia or New Zealand, holding a current practicing certificate or eligibility to obtain one.

• Robust experience in commercial contracting, especially in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements.

• Background in a leading national or international law firm and/or a large corporate or multinational in-house legal team.

• Capability to manage matters autonomously and sound judgment on escalation needs.

• Strong skills in stakeholder management, drafting, and negotiation.

• Practical experience with generative AI tools in legal practices.

• A commercially pragmatic approach and ability to juggle competing priorities in a dynamic environment.

• Curiosity, adaptability, and enthusiasm for working with ongoing technological and product transformations.

• Experience in technology, intellectual property, competition and consumer law, content licensing, SaaS, AI, or legal technology is a plus.
