Lead Substation Structural Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Conduct design evaluations of civil/structural design elements that support bid and construction packages for substation projects.

• Serve as a senior engineer overseeing project execution.

• Carry out design assessments and mentor junior staff members.

• Execute and review designs for substation structures, rigid bus systems, foundation layouts, oil spill containment systems, retaining walls, concrete and masonry control shelters, and fire barriers.

• Design and assess structures and foundations in accordance with industry codes and standards for seismic loading conditions.

• Visit client substation facilities as necessary.

• Travel occasionally for client meetings and industry-related events.

• Adhere to quality control measures and safe work practices.

• Ensure adherence to project scope, timelines, and budgetary requirements.

• Manage and work on multiple projects for various clients simultaneously.

• Collaborate as a senior member of a design team that includes engineers, designers, and drafting technicians.

• Establish and nurture strong client relationships while managing their expectations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil-Structural Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s (MS) degree with 5+ years of pertinent experience.

• A Professional Engineer (PE) License in California is mandatory.

• A Structural Engineer (SE) License in any state is preferred.

• Demonstrated experience in client management and business communication is required.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MATHCAD software is essential.

• Experience with RISA 3D, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, SAG10, FAD, or LPile software is required.

• Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation is necessary.

• Strong knowledge of current industry standards, design codes, and design guides (e.g., ASCE, AISC, ACI, IBC) is required.

• Excellent analytical and technical writing abilities.

• A team player capable of effective communication with clients and staff.

• Experience in the electric utility sector is highly preferred.

• Prior engineering experience within California is strongly preferred.
