Lead Mechanical Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Design and manage intricate 3D CAD models and assemblies utilizing SolidWorks and/or Creo.

• Generate fabrication, assembly, and installation drawings for sheet metal components, welded structures, skids, piping systems, enclosures, and mechanical assemblies.

• Create comprehensive drawing packages that include dimensions, tolerances, bills of material, weld specifications, and installation requirements.

• Convert engineering specifications into precise CAD models and manufacturing documentation.

• Ensure the quality of models, accuracy of drawings, and consistency of configurations throughout the product lifecycle.

• Design sheet metal components including bends, flat patterns, formed features, hardware, and fabrication necessities.

• Develop welded frames, enclosures, and skid designs.

• Produce weldment drawings, cut lists, weld callouts, and assembly documentation.

• Create and sustain piping layouts and routing models for cooling and process fluid systems.

• Collaborate on mechanical layouts for manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and serviceability.

• Generate production-ready manufacturing drawings featuring GD&T, tolerances, material specifications, finishes, and inspection criteria.

• Assist with engineering modifications by updating CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and released documentation.

• Ensure synchronization between CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and PLM records.

• Support prototype manufacturing, pilot production, and ongoing engineering with documentation updates and design modifications.

• Adhere to company CAD standards, drafting practices, and release protocols.

• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams.

• Engage in design reviews, release readiness assessments, and engineering change initiatives.

• Address drawing, documentation, and manufacturability challenges during fabrication and assembly.

• Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of CAD standards, modeling techniques, and documentation practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Associate's degree, Technical Degree, Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Drafting Technology, or equivalent professional experience.

• Over 8 years of practical mechanical design and CAD experience in supporting complex assemblies and manufactured products.

• Advanced expertise in Creo and/or SolidWorks.

• Significant experience in developing manufacturing drawings, weldments, BOMs, and fabrication documentation.

• Proficient understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes.

• Experience in supporting configuration-controlled designs and product release workflows.

• Capability to independently carry out complex design and documentation tasks with minimal oversight.

• Experience in designing sheet metal components, welded frames, skids, and enclosure assemblies.

• Proficiency in detailing piping systems, tubing assemblies, valves, pumps, fittings, and mechanical routing.

• Experience in supporting cooling systems, CDUs, chillers, power equipment, or industrial infrastructure products.

• Familiarity with PLM systems, engineering change procedures, and product lifecycle management.

• Experience in supporting NPI and sustaining engineering within manufacturing contexts.

• Direct experience collaborating with fabrication shops, suppliers, and production teams.
