Lead Java Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Design, build, test, and maintain backend services and APIs that facilitate enterprise payment solutions.

• Engage in Agile ceremonies such as iteration planning, daily standups, and retrospectives.

• Work collaboratively with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to provide customer-oriented solutions.

• Contribute to the architecture, development, and operation of scalable microservices and distributed systems.

• Implement clean code principles, test-driven development, code reviews, and automated testing.

• Develop and sustain CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and support applications operating in production environments.

• Contribute to coding standards, security protocols, and engineering best practices.

• Assist in designing, building, and delivering operational claims systems for Allstate Dealer Services.

• Help define the technical trajectory of a platform that modernizes claims operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of software development experience with Java and J2EE technologies, including Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring IoC, Spring Security, Spring AOP, and related Spring frameworks.

• Proven experience in designing and constructing RESTful APIs, including API documentation (Swagger/OpenAPI), versioning, service discovery, testing, and microservice architectures.

• A solid understanding of object-oriented design principles, software design patterns, and contemporary software development methodologies.

• Experience with relational databases, including schema design, indexing strategies, query optimization, and SQL development.

• Familiarity with automated testing and Test Driven Development (TDD) utilizing frameworks such as JUnit, Selenium, JBehave, or similar tools.

• Proficient in CI/CD and DevOps practices using tools like GitHub, Jenkins, SonarQube, Gradle, Maven, or equivalent technologies.

• Experience in deploying and managing containerized applications through Kubernetes, Docker, or similar platforms.

• Background in developing and supporting production services with observability and monitoring tools like Datadog or equivalent.

• Experience in Agile, Scrum, or XP methodologies.

• Knowledge of application security and quality tools such as SonarQube, Fortify, Contrast, or similar products.

• Experience in building and operating high-volume, distributed systems with an emphasis on reliability, performance, and scalability.

• Familiarity with messaging and event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar technologies.

• Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, PCF, Azure, or similar cloud environments.

• Exposure to modern front-end technologies such as JavaScript, React, or Angular.

• Strong skills in problem-solving, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration.

• Successful completion of a background investigation is required.
