Lead DevOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Provide technical direction for DevOps and platform engineering across supported products, with a focus on core platform and AI initiatives.

• Take ownership of and enhance CI/CD pipelines, integrating code-quality and security scanning.

• Configure repository and pipeline permissions along with enforcement controls.

• Design, develop, and sustain cloud deployment automation, encompassing auto-scaling, blue/green and canary delivery, and one-click rollback capabilities.

• Implement and manage Terraform infrastructure, utilizing Azure CLI for emergency and ad-hoc operations.

• Build, deploy, and oversee Docker workloads on Azure Container Apps, Azure Web Apps, and Function Apps.

• Operate Azure API Management, Elasticsearch, and Databricks to ensure reliability, security, performance, and cost-effectiveness.

• Construct and manage infrastructure and pipelines for AI, machine learning, and data workloads, including MLOps.

• Collaborate with Engineering and Security teams on network and firewall modifications and compliance matters.

• Develop self-service platform capabilities along with internal developer tooling or golden paths.

• Automate system administration, provisioning, configuration, maintenance, and disaster recovery processes.

• Create observability in partnership with the NOC team using metrics, logs, traces, and alerting mechanisms.

• Integrate security and compliance into pipelines and infrastructure through DevSecOps automation, auditing, and tooling.

• Lead critical projects, address complex challenges, and provide mentorship to team members.

• Collaborate with FinOps to optimize costs related to cloud and AI resources.

• Establish and uphold business-focused KPIs and SLOs to achieve operational excellence.

• Exceptional communication and collaboration abilities across various disciplines and levels.

• Proven technical leadership or mentorship experience on complex, cross-team projects.

• Strong analytical capabilities with a successful track record of enhancing reliability and performance.

• Demonstrated success in building and optimizing CI/CD for Azure-based SaaS applications, including SonarCloud and Black Duck scanning.

• Experience in configuring and enforcing repository and pipeline permissions.

• Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.

• Strong expertise in Terraform infrastructure-as-code.

• Proficient in Azure CLI.

• Strong scripting abilities in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.

• Experience with Docker on Azure Container Apps, Azure Web Apps, and Function Apps.

• Familiarity with operating Azure API Management, Databricks, and Elasticsearch.

• Experience in managing network and firewall configurations and change-request processes.

• Strong understanding of Microsoft/Windows and Linux server environments.

• Working knowledge of version control and Git-based workflows.

• Experience in an agile software development lifecycle.

• Strong grasp of security principles and secure-by-design practices.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and IIS configuration and management.

• Familiarity with local and wide-area networking, including switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, VNets, and application gateways.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Preferred: experience in supporting AI/ML or generative AI workloads in production, including MLOps, model deployment and serving, and monitoring.

• Preferred: familiarity with Azure Machine Learning, Azure OpenAI, or common ML frameworks.

• Preferred: advanced tuning and scaling of Databricks and Elasticsearch.

• Preferred: knowledge of GPU-based compute, vector databases, RAG architectures, internal developer platforms, Kubernetes, observability stacks, additional PaaS and delivery tooling, data platforms, and relevant Azure certifications.
