Lead DevOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of one or multiple Future Infrastructure Group initiatives from architectural design to successful outcomes.

• Establish project architectures, covering component design, interfaces, data models, and network assumptions.

• Convert operational challenges faced by members into clear problem statements and architectural designs.

• Document design trade-offs among member requirements, vendor capabilities, and the direction of standards.

• Lead or develop proof-of-concept implementations in laboratory settings.

• Set the technical direction for contractors and internal engineers, reviewing their outputs.

• Collect and reconcile requirements from member engineering and operations teams.

• Facilitate member participation for lab access, field trials, and the collection of production telemetry or longitudinal datasets.

• Conduct regular technical working sessions with participating members.

• Engage vendors and partners in trials and proof-of-concept projects.

• Transform member requirements into specifications for vendor engineering teams.

• Oversee vendor scope and timelines.

• Represent projects in standards organizations and industry forums.

• Evaluate vendor platforms and product claims against architectural requirements.

• Manage project plans according to a Gate 1 / Gate 2 / Gate 3 schedule.

• Deliver validated results along with documentation and defined handoff processes.

• Identify and escalate scope or schedule risks with recommendations for mitigation.

• Report to the Senior Director of the Future Infrastructure Group.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of seven years of experience in network architecture, systems engineering, or software architecture.

• Proven experience leading technical projects that involve collaboration with organizations outside of the candidate’s own.

• Demonstrated ownership of projects from inception through successful implementation.

• In-depth knowledge of Wi-Fi technologies, including Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, multi-AP and mesh deployments, and instrumentation for Wi-Fi quality-of-experience.

• A master's degree in a relevant technical field is preferred.

• Direct experience engaging with network operators, vendors, consortia, or standards organizations.

• Familiarity with the processes of operator evaluation, adoption, internal approvals, and operational readiness.

• Participation in standards organizations such as CableLabs, SCTE, IETF, 3GPP, ETSI, Mplify, or TM Forum.

• Working knowledge of the 802.11 standards and Wi-Fi Alliance certification programs.

• Exposure to 802.11ah and Wi-Fi HaLow technologies.

• Experience conducting lab or field trials with operators.

• Patents or published technical work are a plus.

• Equivalent practical experience may be accepted in lieu of formal educational qualifications.
