Lead Backend Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Uruguay.

📋 Description

• Design and develop scalable backend systems utilizing Java

• Lead the architectural design and execution of distributed systems

• Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance within complex multi-service environments

• Create and enhance concurrent and multi-threaded applications

• Implement patterns for thread synchronization, locks, barriers, and atomic operations

• Construct and maintain big data pipelines and infrastructure for high-volume ingestion, processing, and storage

• Manage containerized workloads through Kubernetes

• Define strategies for deployment, scaling policies, and resource management for backend services

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on service contracts, APIs, and integration patterns

• Implement solutions for observability and monitoring

• Support production deployments and resolve complex issues

• Drive initiatives for continuous improvement

• Mentor and collaborate with team members

⛳️ Requirements

• In-depth proficiency in Java with a robust understanding of advanced language features and best practices

• Strong expertise in concurrency patterns, multi-threading, thread synchronization, locks, barriers, mutexes, atomic operations, and volatile semantics

• Proven hands-on experience in designing and implementing distributed systems, focusing on consistency, fault tolerance, and data replication

• Practical, production-level knowledge of Kubernetes for container orchestration, deployment strategies, and service management

• Strong fundamentals in SQL and database design

• Experience with system profiling, performance analysis, and optimization techniques

• Familiarity with Grafana, Prometheus, or Loki

• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills for complex distributed systems

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to mentor and collaborate with team members

• Advanced English proficiency required for effective communication with global teams

• Over 5 years of experience in Backend Engineering or related disciplines such as Systems Engineering or Full-Stack Development

• Demonstrated expertise in distributed systems and multi-threaded application design

• Experience with the Spring Framework or other modern Java backend frameworks is advantageous

• Background in Kafka or event-streaming architectures is a plus

• Familiarity with reactive programming frameworks or reactive systems design is beneficial

• Prior experience in programmatic advertising or real-time data processing systems is a plus
