Lead Azure DevOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Define and take ownership of the Azure / M365 platform architecture, Landing Zone design, governance model, and DevOps standards for IREN.

• Lead, mentor, and develop fellow DevOps Engineers within IREN, focusing on Azure best practices, including work planning, code review, technical coaching, and performance feedback.

• Establish and enforce standards for infrastructure-as-code, module libraries, branching and release strategies, as well as pipeline patterns across Azure DevOps and GitHub.

• Ensure platform reliability by defining SLOs, as well as monitoring and alerting standards, on-call practices, and incident/problem management for platform services.

• Design and implement identity, network, and policy controls in collaboration with Cybersecurity and IT, including Entra ID, Conditional Access, Azure Policy, RBAC, and private networking.

• Spearhead security-by-design principles and compliance automation, ensuring that pipelines and platform controls generate audit documentation for SOX and ISO 27001.

• Drive the prioritization of the platform roadmap and the reduction of technical debt, evaluating new Azure services, automation, and AI-enhanced operational tools.

• Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex platform incidents, conducting root-cause analysis and post-incident reviews.

• Manage relationships with Microsoft and key vendors, including overseeing licensing, support engagements, and architecture reviews.

• Clearly communicate platform status, risks, and decisions to IT leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in DevOps, platform, or cloud engineering, with a minimum of 4 years designing and managing Microsoft Azure environments at an enterprise scale.

• Proven experience in leading or mentoring engineers and taking ownership of technical delivery for a team.

• Expert-level knowledge of infrastructure as code (Bicep and/or Terraform / OpenTofu) and CI/CD design in Azure DevOps and/or GitHub / GitLab Actions, including the creation of reusable module and pipeline libraries.

• In-depth understanding of Entra ID, Azure networking, Azure Policy/Management Groups, Landing Zones, and Azure security services (Defender for Cloud, Key Vault / OpenBAO, Sentinel).

• Strong scripting and automation capabilities in PowerShell and Python, including working with Microsoft Graph and Azure REST APIs.

• Demonstrated experience operating platforms in regulated environments and generating audit documentation for SOX, ISO 27001, or other equivalent frameworks.

• Familiarity with observability tools (Azure Monitor, KQL), SRE practices, and governance and administration of security policies.

• Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining architecture and risk considerations to both engineers and executives across different time zones.

• Microsoft certifications such as AZ-400, AZ-305, or AZ-500 are highly valued; Terraform Associate certification is a plus.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Authorization to work in the United States, verified through E-Verify and Form I-9.
