Lead AI Solutions Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Collaborate directly with business stakeholders and domain experts to grasp objectives, processes, limitations, and anticipated outcomes.

• Examine requirements, documentation, examples, templates, and reference materials thoroughly.

• Identify processes that are suitable for AI automation and assess when traditional software solutions are more appropriate.

• Convert complex and ambiguous business processes into structured, executable instructions for AI agents.

• Design, implement, test, and maintain reusable AI components, which include instructions, scripts, validation logic, reference data, and shared workflow elements.

• Create evaluations using realistic scenarios, golden cases, acceptance criteria, and regression tests.

• Troubleshoot agent behaviors, identify the root causes of incorrect workflow outcomes, and apply necessary fixes.

• Conduct pilot programs with actual users, gather structured feedback, and launch enhanced versions.

• Take ownership of workstream outcomes, including user adoption, measurable time savings, and reliability.

• Adhere to and refine standards for authoring, reviewing, versioning, and releasing AI skills.

• Integrate seamlessly with client platforms and data sources.

• Operate within the architecture and standards set by the Enterprise AI Architect.

• Independently manage client discussions and pilot cycles.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated hands-on software engineering experience in building, reviewing, testing, and maintaining production-quality solutions.

• A robust engineering background in at least one contemporary technology stack.

• Familiarity with TypeScript / Node.js, NestJS, and Angular is advantageous but not essential; backgrounds in Python, Java, or .NET are also welcome.

• Experience with version control, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD processes.

• Proven experience delivering real LLM-backed systems to actual users.

• Practical experience with modern AI tools and platforms.

• Understanding of the current landscape of AI tools and platforms.

• Proficient in agentic patterns, including tool use/function calling, MCP, prompt engineering, context engineering, structured instruction design, and orchestration.

• Experience in assessing and enhancing non-deterministic systems using test sets and measurable acceptance criteria.

• Ability to make sound judgments regarding when to employ AI versus traditional software solutions.

• Direct experience engaging with external clients and business stakeholders.

• Capability to shape and pitch solutions rather than solely delivering pre-defined work.

• Skill in transforming vague requirements and implicit domain knowledge into clear designs and executable workflows.

• Proficient in explaining technical approaches and trade-offs to non-technical audiences.

• Product mindset that prioritizes user adoption and business outcomes.

• C1 proficiency in English.

• Ability to maintain working-hour overlap with clients in the US / Western Europe.

• Nice to have: Experience with Claude Code, Skills, plugins, or MCP servers.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with LLM evaluation tools such as promptfoo, LangSmith, or custom harnesses.

• Nice to have: Background in consulting or professional services.

• Nice to have: Exposure to HR technology, compensation and benefits, payroll, or workforce analytics.

• Nice to have: Experience with internal developer tools or platform capabilities.

• Nice to have: Contributions to public work such as open-source agent tooling, published skills/plugins, conference presentations, or technical writing on agentic engineering.
