This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee advanced research in natural language processing, computer vision, signal processing, and AI reasoning.
• Spearhead AI safety research, encompassing literature reviews, experimental design, AI/software engineering, data gathering, data analysis, and documentation.
• Develop, design, and manage independent test and evaluation research programs aimed at safeguarding the public from potential AI system harms.
• Lead and contribute to competitive research proposals utilizing Heilmeier criteria to outline scope, methodology, and deliverables.
• Act as the principal investigator for Digital Safety independent test and evaluation research initiatives.
• Utilize advanced technology and AI/software engineering expertise to implement and oversee research programs.
• Analyze experimental outcomes, identify root causes of issues, devise solutions, and assess technical specifications.
• Plan, design, and execute procedures to validate testing and evaluation outcomes.
• Design and carry out research challenges that utilize and enhance DSRI evaluation tools.
• Lead the AI specialty community in addressing challenges pertinent to transition partners.
• Propose and facilitate workshops at prominent AI safety research conferences.
• Review papers and scientific publications and participate in academic conferences to remain updated with evolving technologies.
• Contribute to both department-specific and cross-functional initiatives.
• PhD in Computer Science with a specialization in the relevant AI area.
• 8 or more years of directly relevant research experience.
• Proven general knowledge of AI and software engineering fields.
• Demonstrated experience in securing research funding through competitive proposal development.
• Proven ability to write and successfully win proposals for prestigious research workshops.
• Proven ability to attract invitations for keynote presentations.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Advanced skills in AI engineering, software engineering, and data analysis.
• Capability to collaborate effectively with research scientists, engineers, team members, and external partners.
• Ability to publish research findings at leading academic conferences.
• Extensive understanding of cutting-edge AI and software engineering principles and theories.
