Law Clerk

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Perform legal research and writing tasks, which include drafting legal memoranda, aiding in brief preparation, managing filings, exploring new projects, and composing public comments.

• Engage in research and assess administrative regulations along with various policy proposals.

• Represent at administrative hearings when the opportunity presents itself and attend court arguments or agency proceedings for observation.

• Assist in the process of interviewing experts.

• Collaborate with coalitions and partner organizations.

• Analyze federal and state legislation related to endangered species, public lands, oceans, energy, and pollution issues.

• Monitor ongoing legislation in Congress concerning the Endangered Species Act, public-land laws, climate and energy regulations, marine mammal protection, the National Environmental Policy Act, and the Clean Air Act.

• Work alongside seasoned attorneys who offer guidance, training, and mentorship.

• Perform additional job-related responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must have completed at least one year of law school by the time of application.

• Demonstrated strong skills in legal research and writing.

• A genuine passion for the protection of wildlife and their habitats.

• A commitment to equity and justice principles.

• Preferred background or experience in natural resources, environmental, and/or administrative law.

• Scientific literacy is preferred.

• Must exhibit creativity and motivation.

• Applicants should provide a cover letter, resume, writing sample, transcript, and a list of three references.

• Ability to work effectively in either an in-person or remote office environment.

• Standard Monday-Friday schedule, with potential for night and weekend work as required by deadlines.
