Kernel Developer – KernelCare ELS Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Argentina, +5 more countries.

📋 Description

• Conduct investigations into upstream security vulnerabilities and bug fixes, determining their dependencies.

• Backport patches from the Linux kernel to older distributions based on RPM and Debian.

• Address conflicts arising from discrepancies between upstream and target kernel versions.

• Create and reconstruct kernel source and binary packages within reproducible environments.

• Validate patched kernels through targeted testing, build verification, and regression analysis.

• Enhance workflows for patch preparation, building, and validation using Python, Go, or Shell scripting.

• Utilize agentic development tools effectively.

• Document technical decisions and engage in code review processes with the kernel team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in C programming and skilled in Linux debugging.

• Hands-on experience in Linux kernel development, patching, or backporting.

• Comfortable working with Git, GNU build tools, and standard Linux development utilities.

• Experience in building Linux kernels or distribution packages.

• Background in automation using Python, Go, Shell, or a comparable language.

• Some familiarity with agentic or AI-assisted development and a systematic approach to validating generated outputs.

• Proficient in English at an intermediate level or above, both written and spoken.

• Strong sense of ownership, sound technical judgment, and ability to articulate trade-offs.

• Experience with RPM/SRPM or Debian kernel packaging is a plus.

• Background in security patching, CVE analysis, or extended lifecycle maintenance is desirable.

• Familiarity with Docker, QEMU, Jenkins, or other continuous integration systems is advantageous.

• Experience in designing kernel tests or analyzing core dumps and regressions is a plus.
