IT Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +23 more states.

📋 Description

• Ensure the internal technology at Skillable operates smoothly to enhance employee productivity.

• Take responsibility for hands-on engineering related to identity, devices, and daily internal applications.

• Lead the resolution of complex technical issues and investigations.

• Act as an escalation point for the IT Service Desk.

• Develop and maintain tools and automation to streamline internal IT processes.

• Plan, coordinate, and oversee changes to IT systems, processes, and infrastructure.

• Identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiency, while assessing and mitigating risks.

• Collaborate with IT teams, business units, and stakeholders throughout the change management process.

• Support and maintain hardware, servers, operating systems, networking, telecommunications, and databases.

• Analyze and recommend improvements in IT tools, technologies, and infrastructure.

• Manage and monitor firewalls, antivirus software, endpoint protection, and intrusion prevention systems.

• Participate in projects aimed at enhancing reliability, security, efficiency, and scalability.

• Oversee Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune management, including accounts, licenses, groups, permissions, authentication, and access policies.

• Deploy, configure, secure, and maintain Windows and Mac devices using Intune and Iru.

• Provide technical support to employees and address escalated issues, including root-cause analysis.

• Administer SaaS applications, SSO, provisioning, deprovisioning, and integrations.

• Develop, deploy, and operate AI tools and agentic workflows for routine IT automation.

• Establish AI governance practices, including guardrails, logging, access controls, usage monitoring, and cost management.

• Evaluate and implement AI capabilities within IT workflows and processes.

• Collaborate with People and Security teams on onboarding, role changes, access updates, and offboarding.

• Create technical documentation, knowledge articles, and runbooks.

• Monitor the health, performance, availability, and stability of internal systems and infrastructure.

• Manage Skillable’s Azure environment using Infrastructure as Code.

• Integrate systems using SAML, OIDC, APIs, and identity and automation technologies.

• Uphold company values through positive interactions with stakeholders.

• Engage in strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (information technology, computer science, etc.) or equivalent professional experience.

• Over 5 years of pertinent experience in IT engineering.

• Practical experience in supporting identity, devices, internal applications, complex technical issues, IT automation, and escalated situations.

• Proven experience in identifying and implementing AI and automation solutions to enhance IT processes and productivity.

• Hands-on experience in building or deploying AI-powered tools, automations, or agentic workflows.

• Understanding of AI governance, including access controls, security guardrails, usage monitoring, and cost management.

• Experience in managing Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune.

• Experience in supporting Windows and Mac devices with MDM tools like Intune or Iru.

• Familiarity with single sign-on, MFA, and conditional access.

• Proficiency in scripting and automating tasks using PowerShell.

• Strong troubleshooting skills across accounts, devices, networks, and applications.

• Capability to work effectively with minimal supervision in a remote team setting.

• Demonstrated success in enhancing internal IT systems and processes through technology and automation.

• Experience in cross-functional collaboration and fostering partnerships.

• Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical audiences at all organizational levels.

• Competence in prioritizing workload, managing projects, and meeting deadlines.

• Proficient in Microsoft Suite, including Teams or similar web conferencing and internal communication tools.

• Comprehensive understanding of business operations and processes, or a willingness to learn quickly.

• Experience with AI-assisted IT workflows, Python, Power Automate, Bash, and Microsoft certifications (MS-900, MD-102, MS-102) is appreciated but not mandatory.

• Authorization to work in the United States.

• Primary residence in one of the eligible states: AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IN, KY, MA, ME, MI, MO, NC, ND, NE, NH, NV, NY, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX, UT, WA, WI.

• A remote home office equipped for privacy and focus during frequent video and voice calls.
