Investment Associate

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist in managing WES’ investment portfolio, which is fully aligned with our mission, including catalytic and thematic investment strategies.

• Aid in the development of a robust pipeline and perform market research to pinpoint high-quality investment opportunities.

• Participate in investment due diligence that encompasses financial, strategic, and impact considerations.

• Design investment instruments such as debt, equity, guarantees, and recoverable grants.

• Support investment evaluations, financial modeling, benchmarking, and the monitoring of the portfolio.

• Create dashboards, reports, forecasts, trend analyses, screening memos, and investment memos.

• Contribute to the overall investment strategy of WES alongside the Investments team, leadership, and the Board.

• Enhance the complete investment process, including pipeline management, due diligence frameworks, portfolio monitoring, valuation processes, and reporting systems.

• Identify process deficiencies and implement scalable solutions in collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Oversee project management and CRM systems that support portfolio objectives and milestones.

• Assist with portfolio monitoring, valuation, performance reporting, monthly Cash and Investment Reviews, and bi-annual Performance Monitoring and Valuation Analyses.

• Generate ad hoc analyses and risk assessments for internal stakeholders.

• Serve as an internal liaison and advocate for impact investing throughout WES teams and departments.

• Formulate and implement a knowledge management strategy that integrates investment activities and insights across WES.

• Provide occasional administrative support to the Senior Director of Investments.

• Promote learning, knowledge sharing, and thought leadership among investee partners and the wider community.

• Report to the Senior Manager of Thematic Investments and collaborate with WES departments, Executive Leadership Team members, and Board members.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Background in impact investing or a related field such as venture capital, venture philanthropy, private equity, community development financing, fund investments, social enterprise development, investment banking, and/or private debt.

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience or 1 year of applicable experience.

• Strong analytical and data management capabilities.

• Proficient in assessing situations, deconstructing complex issues, identifying strategic trade-offs, and applying insights in a broader context.

• Excellent project management abilities with a capacity to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

• Comfortable working with financial statements.

• Experience in conducting portfolio analysis, developing models, and producing clear summaries and visuals.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and OneDrive.

• Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM systems, Tableau, and Google Apps.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong interpersonal abilities, including diplomacy, tact, and adaptability.

• Proven experience in establishing trust with a diverse range of stakeholders.

• An entrepreneurial mindset with a willingness to embrace calculated risks.

• A deep intellectual curiosity, openness to varying ideas and perspectives, and a desire for ongoing learning and professional growth.

• A strong commitment to WES’ mission, trust-based investing, and prioritizing JEDI principles in all work.

• An MBA or Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.

• Willingness to travel as necessary to meet partners, attend conferences, and occasionally visit WES’ offices in New York City and Toronto.
