Inpatient Coding Education Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Assess findings related to coding quality, requests, accounts, and recommendations for precision

• Examine trends, identify root causes, assess coding risks, and recognize educational opportunities

• Create and present specialized inpatient coding education

• Assist in the onboarding, feedback, and professional development of coders

• Preserve coding guidelines, educational materials, and documentation reviews

• Collaborate with coding operations, DQS, CDI, leadership, vendors, and other stakeholders regarding coding quality matters

• Raise complex or multi-departmental issues as necessary

• Promote ongoing enhancements across coding quality processes

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management is preferred

• Relevant experience may be accepted as a substitute for a degree

• RHIA/RHIT or CCS certification required

• Background in inpatient facility coding, coding quality review, auditing, or coding education

• Familiarity with DRG-related issues, diagnosis/procedure coding concerns, query-related topics, and quality-impact findings

• Experience in developing educational materials, tip sheets, or other coding resources is preferred

• Experience collaborating with coding operations, DQS/quality teams, CDI, compliance, or leadership is preferred

• In-depth knowledge of inpatient coding guidelines, MS-DRG/APR-DRG methodology, documentation necessities, and coding quality principles

• Capability to assess coding findings and apply coding guidelines accurately

• Strong analytical abilities to discern trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement

• Proficiency in conveying coding concepts effectively through education and feedback

• Excellent organizational, follow-through, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
