This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the strategist and subject matter expert for the company’s indirect tax landscape, focusing primarily on domestic strategy while also offering ad hoc international support.
• Strategically enhance domestic Sales & Use tax, Property tax, Gross Receipts tax, and other forms of indirect taxation.
• Proactively identify tax risks and legislative exposures prior to their impact on the organization.
• Take ownership of ongoing nexus studies and taxability assessments across various jurisdictions.
• Keep track of economic and physical nexus thresholds and manage both registrations and de-registrations.
• Assess new revenue streams, product bundles, and commercial contracts to design optimal tax structures ahead of market launch.
• Offer technical advice regarding international VAT, GST, and HST frameworks.
• Utilize AI and advanced research tools to expedite tax research and enhance workflow efficiency.
• Oversee and optimize taxability rules, product mapping, and exemption logic within Vertex integrated with Oracle Cloud.
• Manage governance of outsourced compliance providers, including source-data workflows, return reviews and approvals, data integrity, and reconciliation.
• Lead and represent the company during state and local indirect tax audits and assist with international indirect audits.
• Develop defensive tax positions, manage relationships with auditors, and minimize financial risk.
• Collaborate with Brokerage Ops, Oracle/IT, and Corporate Development to support enterprise growth.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Over 8 years of focused Indirect Tax experience, with a strong emphasis on domestic Sales & Use, Property, and Gross Receipts tax strategy.
• Significant, practical experience with managing the Vertex engine plug-in and its integration with Oracle for precise sales tax determination and automation.
• Background in SaaS, technology, or other rapidly growing sectors.
• Highly regarded: Master’s degree in accounting or taxation, or professional certification (CPA, CMI, or equivalent).
• Highly regarded: Experience with voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs) and addressing historical sales tax exposures.
• Highly regarded: Experience in supporting international indirect tax strategy (VAT/GST) during global market expansions or for ad-hoc cross-border technical inquiries.
