In-Home Hospice Veterinarian, Euthanasia (DVM)

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Deliver in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain and symptom management, as well as compassionate euthanasia services within the designated service area.

• Travel independently to scheduled appointments and operate in a mobile veterinary care setting.

• Conduct physical examinations, clinical assessments, administer medication, sedation, euthanasia, and other veterinary services in compliance with the position's scope and relevant regulations.

• Educate and assist pet families in making quality-of-life decisions, exploring end-of-life care options, understanding the euthanasia process, and considering aftercare services.

• Keep precise, timely, and professional veterinary medical records and clinical documentation.

• Communicate effectively with pet families, the Heartstrings veterinary medical team, scheduling and support teams, as well as referring veterinary professionals.

• Safely manage, position, and assist with the movement of companion animals during in-home visits.

• Maintain a level of clinical independence, sound medical judgment, professionalism, and reliability while working autonomously in the field.

• Exhibit compassion, dignity, and respect in interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and veterinary partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), BVMS, or an equivalent veterinary medical degree from an accredited or qualifying veterinary program.

• Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, an active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be provided.

• Possess a valid U.S. driver's license and the capability to travel safely between scheduled in-home veterinary appointments.

• Comfortable working independently as a mobile veterinarian.

• Ability to communicate with empathy and professionalism during sensitive pet hospice, quality-of-life, and end-of-life discussions.

• Availability to engage in rotational weekend scheduling.

• Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted and assist with weights up to 100 pounds, with reasonable accommodations as necessary.

• Ability to meet the physical and logistical demands associated with providing veterinary care in residential settings.

• Successful completion of required background checks and motor vehicle record checks after hire and prior to the employee's scheduled start date.
