IBM Z DevOps, Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Offer technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, conduct design evaluations, and advocate for DevOps engineering best practices.

• Create and implement production-level automation utilizing Python and YAML, covering aspects like testing, logging, error management, and operational robustness.

• Design and uphold enterprise-scale automation workflows utilizing the Ansible Automation Platform across IBM Z and distributed systems.

• Construct idempotent, restartable, and state-aware workflows equipped with failure handling, retry mechanisms, and operational safeguards.

• Develop and sustain GitHub workflows and Jenkins CI/CD pipelines, involving Groovy-based pipeline creation and Git-centric release methodologies.

• Incorporate automated compliance checks, quality gates, evidence collection, and artifact management through Nexus Repository or similar tools.

• Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, queries, and automation state tracking to ensure operational reliability and meet audit requirements.

• Create Grafana dashboards and observability pipelines, integrating logging and metrics with enterprise monitoring systems such as Splunk.

• Implement secure secrets management utilizing HashiCorp Vault and integrate secure credentials into CI/CD and AAP workflows.

• Design and maintain REST API integrations and enterprise service interfaces.

• Facilitate configuration drift detection, automated remediation, compliance governance, and uphold secure engineering standards.

• Document reusable automation methodologies and operational processes.

• Collaborate with mainframe and infrastructure teams.

• Support risk management, audit, and regulatory obligations.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of proven DevOps engineering experience, encompassing solution design, governance, compliance, and implementation of DevOps best practices.

• At least 2 years of experience in an IBM Z environment.

• Strong experience in technical leadership, including mentoring engineers and offering technical support.

• Practical experience with GitHub, Jenkins, Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), Nexus Repository, Python, HashiCorp Vault, and API integration.

• Proficient Python development skills, including writing production-grade code, testing, logging, error handling, and modular design.

• Experience in developing Jenkins pipelines using Groovy, Git-based CI/CD practices, and YAML automation.

• Sound knowledge of PostgreSQL schema design, query optimization, and operational data management.

• Experience in creating Grafana dashboards and supporting monitoring, metrics, and observability efforts.

• Knowledge of secure secrets management, credential lifecycle management, compliance verification, and configuration drift management.

• Familiarity with IBM Z and z/OS concepts, such as JCL and batch scheduling.

• Capability to design resilient, restartable automation workflows and operate effectively in complex enterprise settings.

• Strong skills in documentation, collaboration, and problem-solving.

• Experience engaging with technical, infrastructure, risk, and audit stakeholders.

• Candidates must have legal authorization to live and work in the country where the role is located, without the need for employer sponsorship.

• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in regulated financial services environments.

• Familiarity with IBM z/OSMF and zOAU is highly beneficial.

• Experience with IWS, Infrastructure-as-Code governance, and observability tools is desirable.
