Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with Steady State teams to gain insights into daily operational tasks through interviews and shadowing.

• Evaluate ServiceNow ticket data to pinpoint recurring, manual, and labor-intensive tasks, quantifying their frequency and effort.

• Determine automation priorities based on ticket volume, associated risks, and operational implications.

• Develop automation use cases in partnership with Steady State leadership.

• Document best practices, essential procedures, and maintenance/deployment tasks into reusable Ansible playbooks and roles.

• Create and sustain Terraform Infrastructure as Code for consistent provisioning and configuration.

• Establish and manage GitLab CI/CD pipelines to package, test, and safely deploy automation into production.

• Oversee secrets, credentials, and certificates utilizing HashiCorp Vault.

• Utilize JFrog Artifactory, including Xray, Catalog, and Curation, to manage and secure automation artifacts.

• Validate automation solutions against existing manual procedures prior to phasing out manual processes.

• Monitor and report on automation coverage and decreases in manual ticket volume.

• Document automated processes, playbooks, and pipeline configurations thoroughly.

• Observe ticket trends and manage the automation backlog.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6–8 years of experience in automation, DevOps, or platform engineering roles.

• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or equivalent professional experience.

• Practical experience with Ansible, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, and HashiCorp Vault.

• Proficiency in analyzing ticket/incident data using ServiceNow or a comparable ITSM tool.

• Experience in gathering requirements from operations teams through interviews and process walkthroughs.

• Familiarity with Windows and Linux systems administration, storage, and backup operations.

• Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, PowerShell, or a similar language.

• Comprehension of DevSecOps principles and software supply chain security.

• Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Excellent communication skills across development, security, and operations teams.

• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is preferred.

• Familiarity with ServiceNow and Power BI reporting/dashboarding is preferred.
