Hospital Coder – Inpatient

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Evaluate inpatient clinical documentation, procedural details, and diagnostic outcomes

• Precisely assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS diagnostic and procedural codes within inpatient electronic medical records

• Implement Official Coding Guidelines, CMS regulations/guidelines, and ICD-10 coding standards

• Uphold organizational quality and productivity benchmarks

• Remain updated on coding principles, governmental regulations, coding guidelines, and payer requirements

• Facilitate compliant documentation, billing, and coding practices

• Work in conjunction with providers and clinical documentation improvement as well as quality departments

• Standardize and enhance coding, documentation, and quality reporting methodologies

• Utilize software solutions in daily operations

⛳️ Requirements

• Associate degree in Health Information Technology (or eligibility) or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management and/or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required

• RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification is mandatory

• New graduates eligible for certification must take the certification examination at the earliest testing opportunities following employment and continue until successfully completed

• Previous experience in hospital coding is highly preferred

• Prior experience with computer and/or encoder software is advantageous

• Comprehensive understanding of MS-DRGs and APR-DRGs

• Familiarity with ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding principles

• Awareness of Official Coding Guidelines, CMS regulations/guidelines, governmental regulations, and third-party payer requirements

• Proficiency in utilizing various software solutions

• Capability to uphold quality and productivity standards

• Ability to collaborate effectively with providers, clinical documentation improvement, and quality departments
