Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Review health risk assessments and evaluations to ensure completion and compliance with CMS guidelines.

• Evaluate the accuracy, completeness, specificity, and appropriateness of diagnosis codes.

• Accurately and completely assign all clinically identified and supported ICD-10 codes.

• Communicate issues and necessary corrections to the supervisor.

• Utilize knowledge of ICD-10 and HCC coding.

• Offer coding protocol guidance to the Director of Coding to ensure compliance with Medicare claims.

• Incorporate coding compliance standards into daily coding practices.

• Identify, rectify, and report any coding problems.

• Stay updated on compliant risk-adjustment coding procedures.

• Maintain coding credentials.

• Complete special projects assigned by management.

• Adhere to HIPAA requirements regarding protected data.

• Exhibit teamwork.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must possess an active core credential: CPC, CPC-A, COC, CCS, CCS-P, CCA or RHIT.

• CRC certification is required.

• Current coding certifications must be in good standing.

• A minimum of 1 year of experience in ICD-10 coding is necessary.

• Experience and knowledge of risk adjustment coding is essential.

• Familiarity with medical record documentation is required.

• Advanced understanding of medical terminology, abbreviations, anatomy and physiology, major disease processes, and pharmacology.

• Previous work experience in the healthcare sector, particularly in coding, is preferred.

• Prior experience in medical chart auditing or quality assurance is a plus.

• Ability to work overtime as needed.

• Capability to meet and uphold required accuracy and efficiency standards.

• Must comply with HIPAA, legal, and policy requirements concerning protected data.
