Hospice Veterinarian

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Deliver in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain and symptom management, and compassionate euthanasia services within the designated service area.

• Travel independently to scheduled appointments and operate in a mobile veterinary care environment.

• Conduct physical examinations, clinical assessments, administer medications, provide sedation, perform euthanasia, and offer other veterinary services within the scope of the position and relevant regulations.

• Educate and support families in making quality-of-life decisions, exploring end-of-life care options, and understanding euthanasia and aftercare procedures.

• Keep accurate veterinary medical records and clinical documentation.

• Communicate effectively with pet families, the Heartstrings veterinary medical team, scheduling and support teams, as well as referring veterinary professionals.

• Safely manage, position, and assist companion animals during in-home visits.

• Uphold professionalism, clinical independence, sound medical judgment, and reliability while working autonomously in the field.

• Show compassion, dignity, and respect in all interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and veterinary partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), BVMS, or a comparable veterinary medical degree from an accredited or similarly qualifying veterinary program.

• Must hold or be eligible to acquire an active veterinary license in the states where services will be provided.

• Possess a valid U.S. driver's license.

• Capability to safely travel between scheduled in-home veterinary appointments.

• Comfortable working independently as a mobile veterinarian.

• Ability to communicate with empathy and professionalism during conversations regarding pet hospice, quality-of-life, and end-of-life matters.

• Availability for rotational weekend scheduling.

• Capacity to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted and assist with weights up to 100 pounds, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.

• Proficient in performing physical and logistical tasks in various residential settings.

• Successful completion of required background checks and motor vehicle record checks after hiring and prior to the scheduled start date.
