Health Information Specialist I – Entry Level

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Handle requests for the release of patient health information in accordance with company and facility policies.

• Ensure the confidentiality, security, and HIPAA compliance of sensitive patient information.

• Maintain an updated understanding of company and facility software systems.

• Follow company and customer facility codes of conduct and policies.

• Communicate work-related challenges, site issues, and variable workloads to the manager.

• Oversee patient health records and protect against unauthorized access.

• Create new patient charts utilizing both paper records and electronic health systems.

• Compile medical records in an accurate and complete manner, following standard procedures.

• Generate digital copies of documents for electronic medical record systems.

• Retrieve and properly transmit patient records to both internal and external requestors.

• Manage inbound and outbound calls, providing updates on medical record statuses.

• Assist with patient walk-ins and perform administrative tasks such as faxing, mailing, and data entry.

• Achieve site-specific productivity targets.

• Coordinate pickups as necessary.

• Execute additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED is required.

• Candidates must be at least 18 years of age.

• Ability to travel between locations as required.

• Willingness to work overtime during peak periods when necessary.

• Basic proficiency in computer use.

• Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and other standard office equipment regularly.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
