Health Information Specialist I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Work Monday to Friday, with shifts lasting 8 hours scheduled between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM EST

• Process billing record requests in accordance with HIPAA regulations and specific client release-of-information requirements

• Receive and handle patient health information requests following Company and Facility policies and procedures

• Uphold confidentiality and security of sensitive information

• Maintain a thorough understanding of Company and facility software

• Comply with Company and customer facility codes of conduct and policies

• Notify the manager of work-related issues, site challenges, and variations in workload

• Manage, protect, and ensure compliance of patient health records with HIPAA standards

• Prepare new patient charts and collect documents from both paper sources and electronic health records

• Organize medical records in standard order while ensuring accuracy and completeness

• Create digital images of documents for storage in electronic medical records

• Retrieve and accurately transmit patient records to both internal and external requesters

• Handle incoming and outgoing calls

• Assist with patient walk-ins and perform administrative tasks such as faxing, mailing, and data entry

• Meet productivity expectations specific to the site

• Schedule pickups and carry out other assigned responsibilities

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required

• Must be at least 18 years of age

• Ability to travel between locations as necessary

• Willingness to work overtime during peak periods when required

• Basic proficiency in computer skills

• Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and other standard office equipment on a regular basis

• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
