Head of Engineering – Utilities

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ukraine.

📋 Description

• Guide the technical strategy across multiple product units.

• Build and enhance the web engineering function essentially from the ground up.

• Create scalable engineering processes, standards, and methodologies across product units.

• Take ownership of the technical direction and engage in significant technical decisions.

• Directly oversee technical leaders within product units, establish business objectives, mentor, provide feedback, and facilitate growth.

• Identify and systematically address technical bottlenecks through engineering practices, automation, and AI.

• Assist product teams in making informed decisions that require robust technical expertise.

• Collaborate with company platform teams to formulate technical requests, assess their value, and identify optimal solutions.

• Recognize where technical modifications can yield the most substantial business impact and transform them into actionable initiatives.

• Expand successful engineering solutions across various products and units.

• Engage deeply with the technical context of new initiatives and take ownership of their launches.

• Stay hands-on when necessary instead of solely working at a management level.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of commercial development experience.

• At least 2 years of direct management experience with engineering teams.

• A strong hands-on engineering background.

• Experience in building or significantly restructuring product architecture from end to end: web and backend.

• Capability to independently make technical and architectural decisions.

• Ability to translate business context into technical solutions and a strategic roadmap.

• Experience collaborating with product teams and understanding the impact of engineering on business metrics.

• Proven experience utilizing AI in development and a commitment to fostering an AI-first engineering approach.

• Willingness to operate in environments where processes are not fully established and much must be created autonomously.

• Proficiency in backend development using Node.js.

• Knowledge of databases, including complex queries, indexing, and handling large tables.

• Sufficient cross-platform understanding to independently research and implement necessary tasks.

• Familiarity with mobile and web product principles and lifecycles.

• Understanding of how to integrate AI/LLM into production products.

• Insight into how technical decisions influence product metrics and business outcomes.

• Experience with product analytics and A/B testing, using Amplitude or similar tools.

• Ability to utilize data and product analytics for informed technical decision-making.

• Comprehension of the complete product development cycle, from idea validation and hypothesis testing to release and scaling.

• Experience with product monitoring, stability, and performance utilizing Sentry, Grafana, or equivalent tools.

• Capability to assess technical challenges based on their impact on users, products, and business.

• Eagerness to identify technical improvement opportunities in development and related areas such as marketing, content, and analytics.
