Head of Engineering – Sales & Marketing Tools

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Lead the engineering team for MonieCRM, which serves as Moniepoint’s in-house workforce operations platform.

• Modernize and reconstruct rapidly expanded legacy systems.

• Enhance platform reliability and performance, catering to over 20 million users.

• Supervise wallets, commission calculations, attribution, cashouts, and welfare funds.

• Ensure financial accuracy for systems that support a vast field sales network.

• Develop capabilities in partner management, rewards and retention, as well as marketing technology.

• Engineer and customize Braze for effective customer engagement.

• Scale the sales and marketing platform across diverse markets.

• Empower commercial teams to operate more efficiently through reliable tools.

• Build a high-performing engineering team comprising strong managers and senior engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• 10–15 years of comprehensive software engineering experience.

• A minimum of 5 years leading engineering teams through phases of growth.

• Over 5 years of practical, production-level experience in writing and deploying Java applications.

• At least 5 years of experience managing managers and leading engineering leaders.

• Proven experience in platform engineering at scale with complex distributed systems.

• Experience with legacy migrations and re-architecture initiatives at a scale of 20M+ users.

• Strong backend engineering expertise in high-throughput, data-intensive distributed systems.

• Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.

• Experience in managing and developing engineering teams consisting of 20 or more members.

• Familiarity with financial correctness systems such as commissions, payouts, wallets, or ledgers is a plus.

• A background in fintech or payments is highly preferred.

• Exposure to customer engagement or marketing automation platforms like Braze is advantageous but not mandatory.

• CRM or SalesTech experience is explicitly not required.
