This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.
• Take ownership of the technical strategy, architecture, and comprehensive roadmap for the Rewards Platform.
• Enhance the performance, reliability, and functionality of the current cashback product.
• Transform cashback into a more extensive platform focused on rewards, retention, engagement, and personalization.
• Develop and expand the engineering organization by structuring product units and recruiting engineers and Engineering Managers.
• Foster a culture of experimentation through A/B testing, cohort analysis, and performance measurement.
• Work in collaboration with Growth, Sales, and Marketing teams on initiatives related to acquisition and retention.
• Manage the customer-facing rewards experience on both mobile and web platforms.
• Set architecture standards, engineering protocols, and quality metrics.
• Oversee engineering health metrics including incidents, production defects, deployment frequency, change failure rate, and developer experience.
• Develop the platform to cater to customers across various geographic regions.
• Collaborate with the Product team to establish rewards-specific metrics and OKRs.
• Functionally report to the Group CTO and maintain a dual delivery relationship with the Product leader for Rewards.
• Experience in direct-to-consumer product engineering at scale.
• Solid expertise in front-end and mobile engineering.
• Practical experience with A/B testing, feature flagging, and measurement frameworks.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience managing managers.
• Over 10 years of overall software engineering experience.
• At least 5 years of experience leading engineering teams through growth stages.
• Hands-on technical leadership with substantial engineering involvement.
• Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience in building and scaling an engineering organization from a small starting point.
• Ability to hire and nurture Engineering Managers.
• Strong collaboration skills with growth, marketing, and sales stakeholders.
• Experience in rewards, loyalty, gamification, personalization, or growth platforms is a plus but not mandatory.
• Experience in fintech or payments is advantageous but not essential.
• Complete autonomy as the CTO of your domain.
