Head of Engineering, Rewards

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Rewards Platform from start to finish.

• Enhance the performance, reliability, and functionality of the current cashback product.

• Transform cashback into a more comprehensive rewards, retention, engagement, and personalization platform.

• Develop the engineering organization from its current state by structuring product units, recruiting engineers and Engineering Managers, and providing leadership through managers.

• Foster an experimentation culture utilizing A/B testing, cohort analysis, and customer behavior measurement.

• Collaborate with Growth, Sales, and Marketing teams to convert acquisition and retention goals into actionable product and engineering initiatives.

• Manage the customer-facing rewards experience across both mobile and web platforms.

• Establish architecture standards, engineering processes, and quality metrics.

• Oversee engineering health, including incidents, production defects, deployment frequency, change failure rates, and developer experience.

• Build the platform to cater to customers in various geographical locations.

• Partner with Product teams to define rewards-specific metrics and OKRs.

• Functionally report to the Group CTO, while also maintaining a dual reporting line to the Product leader for Rewards.


⛳️ Requirements

• Experience in direct-to-consumer product engineering at scale, with successful products launched for large consumer audiences.

• Strong expertise in front-end and mobile engineering across consumer-facing web and mobile platforms.

• Practical experience with A/B testing, feature flagging, and measurement frameworks.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience managing managers.

• Significant hands-on engineering experience and technical credibility.

• Over 10 years of overall software engineering experience.

• At least 5 years of experience leading engineering teams through periods of growth.

• Proficiency with Java and Spring Boot backend environments.

• Experience in building and scaling an engineering organization from a small foundation, including hiring and nurturing Engineering Managers.

• Strong collaboration skills with growth, marketing, and sales stakeholders.

• Experience in rewards, loyalty, gamification, personalization, or growth platforms is a plus, though not mandatory.

• Fintech or payments industry experience is advantageous but not essential.
