Head of Engineering – Hands-on

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pakistan.

📋 Description

• Oversee daily engineering operations while the CTO concentrates on architecture and product strategy.

• Allocate approximately half of the time to coding and the other half to team management.

• Take charge of sprint planning, aligning priorities with business objectives, providing estimates, and facilitating daily team unblocking.

• Foster a culture of code reviews, testing discipline, and reliability in production for ingestion pipelines and scheduled tasks.

• Conduct one-on-one meetings, onboarding sessions, growth discussions, and initial hiring interviews.

• Personally deliver significant features, particularly in the initial stages.

• Collaborate with the CTO as a technical ally on delivery and implementation.

• Release features across the API, worker, and frontend.

• Assist in ensuring that roadmap objectives are delivered reliably while enhancing team clarity and quality.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years in software engineering, including over 2 years in a leadership role managing a team of 3-8 while still contributing code.

• Extensive experience with TypeScript/Node.js; capable of reviewing a NestJS service or React data grid and providing meaningful insights.

• Background in data-intensive systems: high-volume ingestion, background job management, or warehouse/analytics pipelines.

• Experience in delivery planning, scoping, prioritization, and making strategic trade-offs.

• Comfortable serving as the secondary technical voice; able to privately challenge the CTO while aligning publicly.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Temporal or similar tools like Airflow or Step Functions in a production environment.

• Preferred: Experience within the Amazon marketplace ecosystem, including SP-API, Ads API, or seller tools.

• Preferred: Background in e-commerce, ad-tech, or analytics products.

• Preferred: Experience implementing lightweight processes in teams with previously minimal structure.
