Head of Engineering – Field Verification

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Field Verification platform from start to finish.

• Transition the platform from a reactive maintenance approach to intentional, prioritized development.

• Lead and expand the current cross-functional team while growing the organization as the scope broadens.

• Develop trip and route optimization, task allocation, and capacity management for field officers.

• Manage APIs, webhooks, and the back office utilized by various business units.

• Provide a native mobile experience tailored for field officers.

• Ensure that verification data is organized, auditable, and compliant with scrutiny standards.

• Design solutions for multi-country expansion.

• Collaborate with Product, onboarding, loans, compliance, and fraud business units.

• Establish architecture standards, engineering processes, and quality metrics.

• Recruit and mentor engineers and Engineering Managers.

• Achieve measurable enhancements in field officer efficiency, reduction in verification costs, compliance-ready data, a platform ready for new markets, and an expanded engineering team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience building products directly and transitioning into leadership roles from engineering.

• Proficient across backend, web, and mobile platforms.

• Background in developing platforms utilized by various distinct user groups and internal business units.

• Versatile problem solver; experience across different industries is viewed positively.

• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering.

• Significant hands-on experience in production engineering with strong backend expertise.

• Familiarity with backend environments using Java and Spring Boot.

• Minimum of 5 years of engineering leadership experience, including managing Engineering Managers.

• Proven ability to collaborate with product and business stakeholders to translate operational needs into engineering solutions.

• Experience with location and geospatial data, including map integrations, is highly advantageous.

• Knowledge of route, trip, or delivery optimization is also a strong benefit.

• Experience in compliance-related building is a significant plus.

• Familiarity with identity, KYC, or verification platforms is a plus but not mandatory.
